Even if its in the covenants and someone goes down to Metro for a permit, they are going to sell you one anyway, Glover said. It would be up to the homeowners associations to fight you legally and they just didnt want that added headache.
The Metro Council passed the chicken bill last month, making it legal for residents to keep up to two, four or six chickens, depending on their property size, for an annual permit fee of $25. But the hens are still forbidden in some neighborhoods throughout the county, where neighborhood covenants prohibit poultry and livestock. Since Metro does not enforce restrictive covenants, it will be each HOAs responsibility to impose its guidelines.
